Red to move

Tap or click a column to drop your piece. First to get four in a row wins. Same device 2 player or vs the computer.

How to play four in a row

  1. Pick a column. Players take turns dropping a disc into one of the 7 columns. Gravity pulls it to the lowest empty slot. Red moves first.
  2. Get four in a row. Connect four of your discs across, down or diagonally. The winning four are highlighted.
  3. Full board is a draw. If every slot is filled and nobody has four, the game is a draw. Use Undo or New game any time.
  4. 2 player or vs the computer. Pass one device between friends, or play Easy / Normal against the computer as Red or Yellow.

Tips that actually matter

  • Threaten two ways at once. A move that creates two different threes can’t both be blocked.
  • Control the centre. Column 4 reaches every direction; edge columns are easier to trap against.
  • Block first, then build. Our Normal computer always takes a win and always blocks — play the same way.

How strong is the computer?

We played 40 games between Normal and Easy with a fixed seed, swapping who goes first. Normal won 40 — 20 as Red and 20 as Yellow — in about 19 moves on average.

FAQ

How do I play four in a row with 2 players on one device?

Choose “2 players” and take turns tapping a column on the same phone, tablet or computer. The highlighted name shows who is to move.

Can I play against the computer?

Yes. Choose “vs CPU”, then Easy or Normal, and whether you play Red (first) or Yellow. Normal always takes a winning four, always blocks your threats, and looks a few moves ahead. In 40 test games against Easy, Normal won 40.

Is this the same as Connect Four?

Same familiar rules — 6×7 board, gravity, four in a row — but we use the generic name “four in a row”. No brand affiliation.

Can I play online against a remote friend?

Not yet — this page is same-device 2 player or vs the computer. For an invite-link duel, try Block Battle.

Is my game saved?

Yes. Mode, level and the current position are stored in this browser so a reload doesn’t wipe your game.
