Packing puzzle solver

Packing puzzle solver

Stuck on a level? Pick it and see one complete solution, or build your own board by blocking 6 squares. The solver uses the same piece engine as the game.

Packing puzzle level 1

Pick a level and press Solve.

Blocks: 2×5 · 3×4 · 5×1 · 2×2 · 1×4 · 2×3 · 3×3 · 2×4 (58 squares) + 6 blocked squares = 8 × 8.

How the packing puzzle solver works

It tries the block with the fewest legal spots first and backtracks as soon as a block has nowhere to go. This is the same search that powers Hint in the free packing puzzle, so its solutions always match the game rules: blocks may rotate 90°, never overlap, and must sit fully inside the board.

Use it as a polyomino puzzle solver for real wooden puzzles

  • Many wooden packing puzzles use rectangles plus a few blockers. Mark the blocked squares in Custom board
  • If the solver says there is no solution, check that exactly 6 squares are blocked and that no region is cut off
  • Want the full challenge? Play the level first and only use the solver to check your answer

FAQ

Which puzzle does this solve?

PuzzlePave’s 8×8 packing puzzle: 8 rectangular wooden blocks (2×5, 3×4, 1×5, 2×2, 1×4, 2×3, 3×3 and 2×4, 58 squares) fill the board around 6 blocked squares. Every one of the 100 levels in the game can be solved here.

Can I enter my own board?

Yes. Switch to Custom board and tap any 6 squares to block them. Some layouts have no solution, and the solver will say so.

Does it work for polyomino puzzles with other shapes?

This tool is built for the 8 blocks above. For the 12 pentominoes use the pentomino solver, and for the daily date board use the calendar puzzle solver.

Will it slow down my phone?

No. The search runs in a background Web Worker, so the page stays responsive, and you can press Stop at any time.
